SayUncle is wondering, "What’s the deal with the atheists who try to convert?...I understand why religious people try to convert atheists. They don’t want you to go to Hell and they want you to have eternal life instead of oblivion. But I see no motivation for converting a believer to non-belief."
There's a simple answer. Some might not like it, so take it or leave it--that's your decision.
The answer is found in I Peter 5:8. "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour..." (KJV)
As tools of evil they seek to destroy those who are saved. It really is that simple.

Most of the Ateists that spread their views are trying to stamp out ignorance.
I don't want my kids being taught in school that the earth is 5000 years old. I really don't have a problem with people of faith except when they tell me I'm going to hell for believing that dinosaur bones are real. Re: Re: A roaring lion

You are certainly entitled to believe that it's an effort to stamp out ignorance. I don't hold that belief.
I am neither eloquent nor persuasive enough to change people minds, which is why I don't usually broach this topic on this blog. And if anyone ever told me I was going to hell for believing that dinosaurs were real, I would tell them they were an idiot, after I finished laughing in their face. Re: Re: Re: A roaring lion

I'm not sure what I am. I beleive in evolution and science, but have experienced enough miraculous stuff to believe in something more.
I get riled at anybody that tries to shove their dogma down my throat, like the 9am 5K years ago earth creation, the Jehovas, the moonies, or spaghetti sky monster worshipers or anyone else who makes no logical sense and has no respect for my beliefs. Re: A roaring lion

Dude, you just called Athiests tools.
Its important to remember Satan is not just seeking to devour believers but athiests too. Our battle isn't against flesh and blood, but the powers of darkness in the dark age. Re: Re: A roaring lion

I know exactly what I said. I also said some people wouldn't like the answer.
Re: A roaring lion
Personally, I don't believe in deities. But I see no reason to go around trying to make other people believe the same way. People who do are just religious fanatics, and have given atheism the status of religion.
