A chronicle of vile and pernicious truths.
About This Blog
The right to keep and bear arms, occasional attempts at satire, frequent recourse to sarcasm, and anything else I can think of. Oh yeah, and pipe smoking. Sometimes H.P. Lovecraft. And obscure Monty Python references when applicable.

Topeka, Kansas:  Comments Sought on Gun Ban Sign

I call this Sign #1 because I will probably have to come up with several more versions before I get this bitter sarcasm out of my system.
View Article  Anti-gun bigotry in Weatherford, Texas
Not long ago in Tyler there was an incident of a car salesman getting into an argument with a customer.  The salesman attacked the customer with a machete.

Now this article from the "viewpoints" section of the Weatherford Democrat pops up.  The writer is attempting humor and includes this statement in describing what he thinks the car dealer is looking for in salesmen.
“Wanted, commission sales representative. Must be professional in appearance, good with numbers and have a concealed handgun permit. History of violence OK.”
My reply to him:
Mr. Riddle, your off-the-cuff remark insinuating that holders of a concealed handgun license are prone to be more violent is offensive, unnecessary, and false.  If you would care to check the records provided by the Texas Department of Public Safety you would see that CHL holders are far less likely to commit violent crimes than the general public.

Your attempt at humor has fallen far short of the goal.  Perhaps you should stick to reporting the facts rather than using this newspaper as a platform for spreading your own anti-gun-owner bigotry.
If anyone else is offended enough to email him, follow the link.  There are links to both email him and leave a public comment on the article.
View Article  CCW in New Orleans
From The Times-Picayune:
An unidentified man was shot dead Tuesday night while allegedly trying to rob a woman in Faubourg Marigny, New Orleans police said.

Police said the woman, 27, and a male companion, 28, were walking about 8:45 p.m. in the 2200 block of North Rampart Street when another man held a handgun against the woman's back and demanded money, said Garry Flot, a police public information officer.

Her companion, who has a concealed weapon permit, pulled his own handgun and shot the gunman several times, police said.

The gunman, who had no identification on him, died at the scene, between Elysian Fields Avenue and Marigny Street.

The case is under investigation, but no charges were filed Tuesday night.

In Search of the Second Amendment

The TRUE story of the American right to arms is told by some of the greatest names in American constitutional law -- professors at Yale, UCLA, Fordham, George Washington University, George Mason University, and other institutions, as well as by lifelong scholars of the Second Amendment, such as Steve Halbrook, Dave Kopel, and Don Kates.
