A chronicle of vile and pernicious truths.
About This Blog
The right to keep and bear arms, occasional attempts at satire, frequent recourse to sarcasm, and anything else I can think of. Oh yeah, and pipe smoking. Sometimes H.P. Lovecraft. And obscure Monty Python references when applicable.

View Article  Over-reliance on 911
911 Bug: Don’t Do Anything Until We Get There is an article by John Longenecker on the problems with people's over-reliance on the alleged emergency system.

Included is a link to this great video from transferofwealth.com, which is a promo site for Longenecker's book Transfer Of Wealth:  The Case For Nationwide Concealed Carry.

I'll see about embedding the video here later on today.  Go check it out.
View Article  Justifiable lethal self defense on the increase in Cincinnati?
From Cincinnati.com:
It's a split-second decision all crime victims face when confronted by a robber, rapist or burglar: Obey the criminal or fight back.

A growing number of Cincinnatians have chosen to fight.

Cincinnati police say at least nine homicides this year could qualify as justified because the killers say they were fending off criminals who intended to harm them. Last year, police reported one justified homicide.
Because they reported it that way, or because there was actually only one justifiable use of lethal force in self defense?  Who knows?

Is it still homicide if it's justified?  Somebody with more legal smarts than I can probably answer that, but I won't call it homicide if it's justified.

Here's another article from the same site that provides more details for the nine cases in question.

UPDATE:  Somewhat related.  Some Ohio TV News stations are leaving out details regarding defensive handgun use from their reports.  (Via John Lott).
This incident is noteworthy since it is the first known case of a defensive handgun use by a citizen with a Concealed Handgun License (CHL) in central Ohio (a radio personality with a CHL was working as a security guard was also involved in an incident, but that was in the scope of his armed employment).

When the TV news stations were called for comment, WBNS 10 reporter Angela An explained that an editorial decision had been made by the producer to omit the defensive handgun use portion of the story. She explained that it was not worth mentioning because defensive handgun use is so common in Columbus and that anyone could verify this by "asking any police officer".

In Search of the Second Amendment

The TRUE story of the American right to arms is told by some of the greatest names in American constitutional law -- professors at Yale, UCLA, Fordham, George Washington University, George Mason University, and other institutions, as well as by lifelong scholars of the Second Amendment, such as Steve Halbrook, Dave Kopel, and Don Kates.
