Today is the day...

Buy a gun or ammo today! UPDATE: I ordered two boxes each of #000 buckshot in .410 and 20 gauge from Cheaper Than Dirt. I needed an excuse to get back on their mailing list, anyway. For more reports on ammo purchases, see August 28 Ammo Buy at The War On Guns. UPDATE 2: From JPFO. Today in 25 cities, shameless self-promoter Jesse Jackson is staging
a gun-store protest. Jackson said the nationwide rallies would represent
a grassroots effort to press state and federal legislators into
passing “common sense” legislation to stem the flow
of handguns and military-style automatic weapons.
Apparently Jackson is unfamiliar with the old saying, "Those
who do not remember the past are doomed to repeat it."
Since 1792, "gun control" laws were designed to keep black
people disarmed and helpless. Black persons, whether slave or free,
had to have a license or a judge’s permission before they
could carry a firearm in Florida and Delaware. For black people,
guns were banned entirely in several states. Florida laws empowered
white "citizen patrols" to invade and search blacks’
homes for guns or other weapons. None of these policies applied,
of course, to white people.
This is the vision Jessie Jackson has for the future? This is the
government he trusts to protect him?
In response to his short-sighted and indeed, suicidal, belief that
"only the government should have firearms," we offer our
latest "Repudiate and Humiliate" handbill below [click to see the image --ed.]: www.jpfo.org/handbill-jackson.jpg
In closing, we would like to point out another quote to Rev. Jackson:
"It is criminal to teach a man not to defend himself when he
is the constant victim of brutal attacks." - Malcolm X

Tomorrow is the Day
by

Tomorrow is the day to buy ammo. I have no confidence that it will send a message to the Bradys and their sycophants because hard, bitter truth hasn't gotten through them to so far.
This morning after I was up but before I left for work, a car pulled into our driveway and got about halfway to the house before they stopped. We live out in the country, about 2 miles off the nearest farm road, and about 1/4 mile from the end of a dead-end county road. We don't get strange traffic here. Unfamiliar cars cruising down the road sends up red flags, and not just for me, but for all of the neighbors.
Our house is about 50 yards away from the road, so someone pulling halfway down the driveway at 5:00 AM did a lot more than send up red flags. It sent me into full ballistic alert.
They sat in the driveway about 25 yards from the house for a few minutes while the dogs when apesh*t and I stood in the shadows and waited for movement with some reassurance in my hand. They finally backed out and went farther down toward the dead end. Since they didn't come back out for the next 40 minutes or so, I think they were there legitimately, but were not familiar with the road and had pulled into the wrong driveway.
However, the experience has helped me decide what to buy tomorrow.
Buckshot.

Clothespin Gun
by

on Fri 24 Aug 2007 09:58 PM CDT
I don't know why, but today I got to semi-remembering the clothespin gun that I and a few of my friends played with when we were kids. I can't remember how to construct it, so I Googled it. I found Clothespin Match Gun. A useful site, to be sure. However, the ones we made didn't require a rubber band, and certainly didn't require as much modification. Also the leftover piece was not discarded, it was used to cock the gun. So I guess I'll have to keep looking. We only fired big gooey spitballs with ours. If my dad had caught me shooting flaming matches, he'd have tanned my hide. Oh yeah, my dad showed me how to make one in the first place. But it's been a while, he probably doesn't remember how either.

Hell in a Handbasket has posted a very simple description of Point Shooting. A great post for newbie handgunners, I think. So if you're interested, go take a look. It could save your life.

Three-shooter

Now that I got the heavy post out of the way for today, I can concentrate on the important stuff like guns in anime. Snagged this selection from Samurai Deeper Kyo. It was the only one I could find of this interesting weapon. A three-barrel pepperbox design, single action. When the hammer is cocked, the entire barrel assembly rotates. Muzzle-loader, obviously. Looks bigger than .50 caliber. Anyhow, I also GIMPed the finger, but I'm not as good at that as some people.

Man opens free BB gun range for kids
by

on Sat 07 Jul 2007 02:00 PM CDT
In Elyria, Ohio: In an effort to bring back a tradition from his own childhood, an 84-year-old man has created a BB gun shooting range for children.
Ted Dowdell decided to turn the barn next to his home near Cleveland into a free shooting range for children.
"The kids don't get a chance to shoot a BB these days," Dowdell said. "I'm just a host inviting my guests to come and shoot."
The range, open by appointment only, is equipped with eight Daisy Red Ryder BB guns mounted on a pole so that they can be cocked only by pointing into the barn. Empty soda cans, cottage cheese containers and pieces of plastic foam serve as targets.
Each station has eye-protection glasses, and anyone under the age of 21 must be accompanied by a parent, who is required to sign a waiver.
Dowdell said he has tested his range at family reunions and considers it safe. He did purchase a $600 insurance policy through the National Rifle Association for added protection.
A deputy with the Lorain County Sheriff's Department inspected the range and did not see anything unsafe, Sgt. Don Barker said.
"It is a legitimate sport for kids," said gun-control advocate Gerald Nunziato, a former agent with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Dowdell suspects a few ruffled feathers.
"I expect a big outcry. I do. So what? Our founding fathers went against the grain. I can take the heat," he said. Way to go, Mr. Dowdell.

Unwelcome Scrutiny
by

on Tue 03 Jul 2007 09:30 PM CDT
Not for me, but for Lurch of Gun Culture. His was one of the first gun blogs I threw into the Bloglines subscriptions back when I first started focusing on the Second Amendment on this blog. His commentary from across the pond has always been encouraging to me that the love of liberty is not completely gone from the British Isles. Now it appears he is being watched. And that he was actually visited by the "authorities." And of all the things he's said on his blog, they sure picked something silly to get worked up about.

A Single-Six Story
by
alandp
on Tue 26 Jun 2007 03:18 PM CDT
"Do you want to help me load my gun?" She had been in one of her grouchy moods so I thought I'd do something to cheer her up. And I did need to load it up with ratshot, since snake weather has set in. She sat down next to me on the edge of the bed and took the gun from me, awkwardly but correctly keeping her finger off the trigger. I had just checked it to make sure it wasn't loaded. It had been a long time since I had drilled her on the old single-action, but she still remembered. With the gun in her lap, she flipped open the loading gate and slowly rotated the cylinder until it had clicked two or three times more than necessary--ensuring herself that the gun was not loaded. I dumped six cartridges of CCI .22 long rifle shotshells in her small hand, and she slowly slid each one into a chamber. She missed one chamber, and struggled with it for a few seconds before she remembered that it rotates in only one direction. She spun the cylinder around and filled the empty chamber. She snapped the loading gate closed and handed it back to me, still keeping her finger away from the trigger and making sure the barrel stayed pointing away from both of us. Her grouchy mood had evaporated. I started out on handguns with a single action revolver. Someday she will learn to shoot with such a gun. The single action revolver is a universal handgun, especially one as solid and reliable as a Ruger Single-Six. And it's so simple to operate, even an eight-year-old can handle it. Graphic found at The High Road.
