Washington Post:
National Guard troops being sent to the U.S.-Mexican border will be armed for self-defense but have minimal contact with illegal immigrants, the Pentagon said on Thursday, seeking to play down the chance of violence. They'd better be armed. Or has everyone forgotten this? Saturday, May 13

How the U.S. Acquired the SW from Mexico: #1 is a good post at Lest Darkness Fall.
I will be looking forward to #2. The historical revisionists are very fond of ignoring the little fact that the self-proclaimed dictator of Mexico trashed both the Mexican constitution and the agreement that the colony of Texas had made with Spain. Based on Santa Ana's later actions, I'd say Austin was lucky that he was only imprisoned, and not simply put before a firing squad. Monday, May 1

I didn't really notice any difference between today and any other day. There were still loads of day laborers hanging out on Commerce St. Supposedly a march was planned for downtown, but they couldn't afford a parade permit so they were supposed to be restricted to sidewalks.
I drove around for a while with a mucky-muck from corporate. He told me he had stopped at a truck stop on I-35 to use the facilities just north of the city that morning. Two busloads of people bound for the demonstrations in downtown pulled up. His comment: "I thought they weren't going to buy anything today. They were sure spending money at that truck stop." Yeah, they were bringing people in from out of town on chartered buses. From the north. They didn't come up from Laredo. There's a post on this at All Things Considered, and it is mentioned that Tyson Foods had to close down because so many employees were out. I do not believe for a second that all those employees were illegal aliens. They are legal citizens of the United States who have willfully become part of the invasion force. I do not believe for a second that those two buses were full of illegals, either. I have known quite a few illegal aliens in my life. Not a single one of them would expose himself by showing up for such a public event as this--where there are sure to be reporters and cameras. Business went on as usual at my place of employment. UPDATE: Check out the report from southern California at Lest Darkness Fall: "In short, a day on the road without illegal aliens was fantastic."

Mexico's Uppermost Threat is Organized Crime:
Mexican organized crime spends millions to purchase weapons and munitions. Every year, authorities trace between 5,000 and 7,000 guns from when they are seized in Mexico back to sources in the US. According to J.J. Ballesteros, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms Chief in Corpus Christi, Texas, this number represents "a drop in the bucket." Ballesteros admits that criminals can literally outfit an army from one gun store, "and it's being done," he said. The most popular guns are the AR-15, AK-47, and Tec-9 pistol.Really? I want to know which one sells grenades. I would also like to know exactly which gun stores in the United States sell mobile, mounted machine guns. Maybe I could put one on layaway. UPDATE: Maybe they got them on ebay. Technorati Tags: Texas, border, gun control Wednesday, March 29

But not the ones you might think.
These "demonstrators" would have made a better point if they had carried U.S. flags and chanted slogans promoting the United States. Instead, they carried Mexican flags and chanted anti-U.S. slogans. These militant demonstrators are not just poor people who are trying to earn a decent living to support their families. They are a clandestine invasion force. I have personally known many illegal aliens during my lifetime--growing up where I have, it's nearly impossible not to. Some of them were counted as my friends--and some of them I worked alongside of, in some of those jobs that "white people don't want to do." They were all here because they were desperate enough to do anything to pull their families out of the squalor of their native country. All of them would have loved to become legal citizens. None of them were like these people. I really have no personal grudge against those who want to come here and work. I am dead set against anyone who wants to turn this country into another Mexico. Phyllis Schlafly poses the question: Is A War Going On In Texas?: If you don't have access to Texas newspapers or the internet, you may not have heard the sensational news about the enormous cache of weapons just seized in Laredo, Texas. U.S. authorities grabbed two completed Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), materials for making 33 more, military-style grenades, 26 grenade triggers, large quantities of AK-47 and AR-15 assault rifles, 1,280 rounds of ammunition, silencers, machine gun assembly kits, 300 primers, bullet-proof vests, police scanners, sniper scopes, narcotics, and cash. She also states: "We wonder what our government is doing to fulfill its duty to 'protect each of them [the states] against invasion,' as called for in the U.S. Constitution, Article IV."Our government seems only to adhere to the "no importa a nadie" policy of border control. Or, as Sgt. Schulz might say, "I see nothingk!"Reports like this worry me more than just about anything else these days. There's an evil black cloud roiling and building steam down there, and one of these days it's going to explode straight up I-35 and there's going to be a huge mess--to put it lightly.
