Proposed legislation that would change Texas' self-defense laws could turn "a surprise party into a gun battle," Victoria County District Attorney Steve Tyler said Monday.I fail to see why I must not be allowed to protect my family from an intruder in the middle of the night just because I happen to be related to him.
Tyler said he thinks this legislation would be dangerous on numerous accounts - including scenarios, perhaps, where "relatives come by to surprise you."
But seriously, if anyone out there knows of an instance--from states which have already passed such a law--in which a group of surprise partiers were slaughtered and then the killer escaped justice by use of a Castle Doctrine Law, please let me know. I will happily retract my sarcasm.
