Someone has reposted an older article by David Kopel at Packing.org: Does God believe in Gun Control?. Excellent article, and worth bookmarking for future reference.

About This Blog
The right to keep and bear arms, occasional attempts at satire, frequent recourse to sarcasm, and anything else I can think of. Oh yeah, and pipe smoking. Sometimes H.P. Lovecraft. And obscure Monty Python references when applicable.

"Happy" only because the good guy isn't going to be prosecuted for defending himself, and can't be taken to civil court either because of Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law.
At The Smallest Minority. Note that this is another case in which the victim got the gun away from his attacker. Note also that the 3-day waiting period very nearly got this person--and possibly his wife--killed. Note also the "baggy pants syndrome." I remember several years ago I read a newspaper account in San Antonio of a burglar who was being chased by cops. The burglar was wearing "baggy pants." He tripped over them, fell and broke his femur. When will they ever learn? Live by the pants, die by the pants. Wednesday, May 16

Strange in San Antonio reports that a San Antonio woman defended her home and children against an intruder by attacking him with a high-heeled shoe. His injuries were so severe he required hospitalization.
This kind of story just warms my heart. But as usual when I post on this topic, I must say: She was lucky that he wasn't armed. I should also say that the intruder was lucky too. The woman could have had something better than a shoe. Tuesday, May 8

The Human Right of Self Defense (pdf) is a new article by David Kopel that will be published in the BYU Journal of Public Law. But you can download it from the internet.
I have only just given it a cursory scan and it looks like good reading. Via Of Arms and the Law. Tuesday, May 1

Read more at A Keyboard and a .45:
"Whether it's on a college campus or wherever, and frankly, I think it's time for our citizens to be able to protect themselves," Perry said. "The last time I checked, putting up a sign that says, 'Don't bring your gun in here,' for someone who has ill intent on their mind, they could (not) care less." |
