A chronicle of vile and pernicious truths.
About This Blog
The right to keep and bear arms, occasional attempts at satire, frequent recourse to sarcasm, and anything else I can think of. Oh yeah, and pipe smoking. Sometimes H.P. Lovecraft. And obscure Monty Python references when applicable.

Sometime Space talks about getting to shoot an old elephant gun with a 1¼" bore.
This beast is an 1874 elephant gun. It takes more powder than 4 large shot guns and places it in one load. It then takes 4oz of lead shot and packs it tight.

Stand tight, pull the trigger and try to stay upright....

GUNS Magazine has an article about the new(ish) .50GI, built like a 1911 but shooting a new .50-caliber cartridge.

9x19mm on the left, .45 ACP on the right, .50 GI in the middle.

I might also add:  Now that's stoppin' power!

The LawDog Files has a must-read story of stupidity-inflicted .25 ACP stoppin' power.

And so I have used one of my favorite expressions for the first time since moving to my new blog host, and will therefore have to create a new category for it.

Although I don't deal with too many dogs since getting promoted, I still carry a dogstick in my truck in case I need it.  This is simply a length of PVC pipe with a tennis ball bolted to the end.  The dogstick is actually a much better defense against dogs than pepper spray.  Some dogs will attack the tennis ball, and you simply let them chew on it while you back out of the yard.  Some dogs think it's a weapon, and won't get close to you because they're afraid of getting hit.  Other dogs can only be pushed away repeatedly until you're safely out of their territory.

South Park Pundit has pointed us to another tool that, although the manufacturer doesn't mention dogs, I can't help but think that the 4-foot pole with a 12-gauge attachment would make one heck of a dogstick.

Via Hell In A Handbasket is a link to this video of an M60 machine gun firing 850 rounds non stop in 1 minute and 45 seconds. I have nothing technically incisive to offer--it just gives me an excuse to use one of my favorite exclamations/post titles, which I haven't used in a while. Worth downloading even at dial-up, it's about 4 megabytes.

I love saying that, and I haven't used it in this blog for a long time. Lest Darkness Fall provides us with a link to a video of someone shooting a double-action revolver so fast it seems almost inhuman.

Lest Darkness Fall provides us with a link to someone shooting a watermelon with a S&W .500 Magnum. If you've read my blog much at all, you probably already know what I'm going to say about this: Now that's stoppin' power!

In Search of the Second Amendment

The TRUE story of the American right to arms is told by some of the greatest names in American constitutional law -- professors at Yale, UCLA, Fordham, George Washington University, George Mason University, and other institutions, as well as by lifelong scholars of the Second Amendment, such as Steve Halbrook, Dave Kopel, and Don Kates.
