A chronicle of vile and pernicious truths.
About This Blog
The right to keep and bear arms, occasional attempts at satire, frequent recourse to sarcasm, and anything else I can think of. Oh yeah, and pipe smoking. Sometimes H.P. Lovecraft. And obscure Monty Python references when applicable.

Why is it that when my inbound links go up, my evolutionary status in the TTLB Ecosystem goes down? It doesn't make sense. Maybe I'm just not highly evolved enough to understand it.

I'd like to take this opportunity to say hello and welcome to my regular international visitors from Newport, Wales and Tokyo, Japan. And a new one today from Malaysia!

That goofy Brady sign that I "revised" sure is getting a lot of hits...some of them not even from the Carnival of Cordite. Heh.

Shub-Niggurath preserve us! The Olympian of Olympia, WA casually informs us of a new movie being filmed, by the title of Cthulhu, which is starring...(gack) Tori Spelling. Why not just stick Dean Stockwell and his tattooed hips in there somewhere and get it over with.

Fortunately, there is some good news to offset that bad news. Slashdot passes on the info that The H.P. Lovecraft Historial Society has completed its silent-film version of The Call of Cthulhu:
The DVD includes The Call of Cthulhu (47 minutes, black and white), the high-fidelity and "Mythophonic" soundtracks, a 25 minute "making-of" documentary featurette, two slide shows, deleted footage, a prop PDF of the Sydney Bulletin and more.

To appeal to Lovecraft fans throughout across the globe, this DVD provides intertitles in 24 languages including: Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Euskera, Finnish, French, Galician, German, Hungarian, Irish, Italian, Lithuanian, Luxmbourgish, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish and Welsh. These aren't just subtitles either--they are the real title cards rendered tastefully in each language. If you thought the story was scary before, wait until you see it in Welsh!
This one, for sure, I gotta see. There's also a trailer available for viewing online.

You've probably already read about this elsewhere, but I want to mention it anyway. The movement for legalizing concealed carry is once again starting in Wisconsin:
The Concealed Carry Bill is back, and this time it's known as the Personal Protection Act.

The last version of the concealed carry bill was defeated by a single vote in February of 2004. Republicans say they've improved the bill and that this time it will become law.

'This is a women's rights issue. This is a personal defense issue. This is an issue that will save lives,' says Senator Dave Zien (R-Eau Claire), who is as passionate as ever about giving you the right to carry a concealed weapon.
View Article  Belmont County Sheriff Demanding Annual Verification
Ohioans For Concealed Carry reports that the Belmont County (Ohio) sheriff's office is apparently starting to make up their own laws as they go along:
Ohioans For Concealed Carry has learned that the Belmont County Sheriff's Office is sending letters to concealed handgun license holders demanding that they complete a one page document verifying their address, and asking if they still have their concealed handgun licenses.

Worse, the document states that you 'MUST' complete this form because it is 'a part of the requirements of having a CCW Permit.'

If you live in Belmont County, or if you obtained your license from the Belmont County Sheriff's Office, you may have received this letter.
The actual demand letter may be read here (pdf file). Ohioans for Concealed Carry response letter is here (pdf file).

In Search of the Second Amendment

The TRUE story of the American right to arms is told by some of the greatest names in American constitutional law -- professors at Yale, UCLA, Fordham, George Washington University, George Mason University, and other institutions, as well as by lifelong scholars of the Second Amendment, such as Steve Halbrook, Dave Kopel, and Don Kates.
