A chronicle of vile and pernicious truths.
About This Blog
The right to keep and bear arms, occasional attempts at satire, frequent recourse to sarcasm, and anything else I can think of. Oh yeah, and pipe smoking. Sometimes H.P. Lovecraft. And obscure Monty Python references when applicable.

View Article  Final version...almost

I found some pretty good gun clip art, one of which is a Winchester lever gun.  I was thinking about putting that and maybe a simple pipe clip art in the empty space.  The collection I found didn't have any clip art of a single-action revolver.  Only one big double-action and a bunch of stinkin' evil black tactical pistols.

This is a very small, low-res jpg version of the original.  As you can see I learned how to curve text.  However, there doesn't appear to be a way to curve it the other way, unless I learn how to re-write the extension.  Anyway, I think it looks better with the url wrapped around the outside like that.

The shading on "The official..." line was made with the "Glossy" text extension, tweaked to show the right colors, then I copied the top layer only and pasted it in.  I discarded the bottom layer because it made the letters look kind of muddy.  The font is an "Old Western" font that I downloaded from somewhere.

Salem, Oregon:
Oregon State University researchers are fine-tuning a purple tomato, a new blend of colors and nutrients. The skin is as dark as an eggplant. But it doesn't just look cool, it could be better for you.

The novel pigment contains the same phytochemical found in blueberries that is thought to reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease.

Six years in the making, the purple hybrid could hit salad plates in two years.

Genetic origins are not at issue. The purple tomato traces its roots to a wild species in South America, not a petri dish.
I like to use lots of thick tomato puree when I make chili.  But I don't know if even I could bring myself to eat purple chili.

View Article  ArmaLaser
Had some downtime at work today so I sat in the truck, had a pipe, and read the newest USCCA Magazine (sometimes being the supervisor really stinks, heh heh).  I came across an ad for ArmaLaser.

For me, the price seems pretty good, looks like all models go for $159.  And they're supposed to have one for the XD coming out in March 2007.

Since I carry my XD in a SmartCarry, it wouldn't require my buying a new holster to fit the laser sight.

Anyone have experience with these?  They also make them for all the Kel-Tec pistols (well, the PF-9 is supposed to be available October 2006, so they might be running behind on that one), plus Kahr and Glock.

In Search of the Second Amendment

The TRUE story of the American right to arms is told by some of the greatest names in American constitutional law -- professors at Yale, UCLA, Fordham, George Washington University, George Mason University, and other institutions, as well as by lifelong scholars of the Second Amendment, such as Steve Halbrook, Dave Kopel, and Don Kates.
