The right to keep and bear arms, occasional attempts at satire, frequent recourse to sarcasm, and anything else I can think of. Oh yeah, and pipe smoking. Sometimes H.P. Lovecraft. And obscure Monty Python references when applicable.

"Our Constitution was made for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate for the governance of any others." The recent issue of USCCA Magazine has a bunch of good quotes in it. I think I'll post some of them.

Now that cool weather is comin' on and the critters are startin' to get some good fur on 'em, I finally got a couple of possum hides fit to take down to the Napa store and trade for a spark 'em plug and some ether to get the yard mower runnin' again.
Took a while to get 'er goin', 'specially since I had to fiddle with that gotdang twigboy safety switch and figure out which way to wire 'er so that it wouldn't shut 'er off ever' time I let go of the handlebars. Ain't nothin' more aggravatin' than a yard mower that shuts 'erself off ever' time you stop to hitch up your pants. Reminds me, I gotta tell the missus to get me some more belt-makin' rope next time she goes to the Walmart store. So I'm mowin' down about an acre of dead black-eyed susans and KR bluestem out by the road, when I notice that there's empty beer cans a-laying on the side of my road. Some drunk goofball has been drivin' down my road, drinkin' and throwing his empties in my KR bluestem patch. And he ain't even got the good sense to drink decent beer. He's been drinkin' Bud Light. Tarnation! Bud Light! Must be some of them furriners I been hearin' about. Heard some just moved in a while back, come from someplace way up north, around Dallas I reckon. One other thing. What happened to all the bullnettles? Man alive, it musta been a dry summer if even the bullnettles cain't grow. The young'uns ain't gonna have much to snack on, come winter, if'n we don't get our reg'lar gatherin' of bullnettle nuts. Sure, you get stung a little, but you cain't make bullnettle nut pancakes without gettin' stung some, like we say in the sandhills.

Front Sight, Press has a great post about the .357 Magnum as a personal defense load.
For the information of anyone who cares: I carry mine with Remington Golden Sabers. This cartridge is in between .38+P and full-blown .357 magnum. According to Remington, their .38+P is around 900 fps (muzzle velocity), Golden Saber .357 around 1200 fps, and full .357 around 1400 fps. I also live in the country, and like having the option of loading it with something more powerful should the occasion arise. I'm thinking those reloads I mentioned recently would be very potent wild hog medicine in my rifle. The versatility of this round is amazing. For the hunter, with varying loads it can be used for anything as small as rabbits up to medium-sized game like deer, or even some large game if you're really good. For defense purposes, a new shooter can start out learning with lower-powered .38 loads, and then move up to more powerful loads without even having to change guns. I would also like to take this opportunity to say that I'm going to create a new category just for the .38/.357 so I can put all these posts in there for easy reference. I'll probably need to go back and re-categorize some of my old posts.

I received word last night that a friend of mine had passed away. He was only two years older than I am.
I woke up at 1:30 this morning with the shreds of a song still echoing in my head (yes, I sometimes dream songs). I couldn't get back to sleep. I'll be going to his service later today. There are many people in my life who I have admired, but only a few who I have felt real respect for. This person was someone who I truly respected because of his intelligence, quick wit, and sharp insights on many different matters. And the world keeps turning on... It happens all the time. And the world keeps hurting on... It happens all the time. Right now that's all I can remember.
