An independent student newspaper at Clemson University that last week published Danish cartoons of Muhammad is sponsoring a drawing this week for an AK-47 assault rifle, stirring some student and faculty protests. The last word is left for a couple of college freshmen, who are obviously the most qualified persons available to speak on the topic.
Jenny Tate, a freshman majoring in industrial engineering, was concerned.Yeah, like shooting it.
"It's kind of scary," she said. "I mean, what if they got in the wrong person's hands? I mean, what if someone won and didn't know how to use it?"
Rachael Shannon, a freshman psychology major, said she couldn't see any benefit the program could have for the school.
"I think there are other ways to celebrate the Second Amendment without auctioning off a rifle," she said.
(Rimshot!)
UPDATE: For the commentor. If you Goggle "ak-47 raffle," you will find numerous other articles which do mention how the gun is awarded. The winner gets a gift certificate good for the gun at a local area gun shop. They aren't going to just get handed the gun. They will still have to go through all the red tape.
tnx to Triggerfinger
