A chronicle of vile and pernicious truths.
About This Blog
The right to keep and bear arms, occasional attempts at satire, frequent recourse to sarcasm, and anything else I can think of. Oh yeah, and pipe smoking. Sometimes H.P. Lovecraft. And obscure Monty Python references when applicable.

View Article  A Work In Progress
This is what I've been doing today.  It's not finished yet, but I'm not sure exactly how I'm going to progress from here, and I'm tired.  Time to watch last night's Adult Swim.  (This is the "thumbnail" version sized for a blog post).

By the way, that episode of Futurama with all the people from Star Trek has to be one of the best Futurama episodes ever.  I was constantly cracking up.  Poor Welshy.

Let's see.  I guess I'm still missing Spike and that guy with the odd revolver from Ghost in the Shell, but I'm kind of running out of room anyway.  And I know Brock Sampson doesn't like guns, but he's still one of my favorite characters.  Besides, he's not an actual gun-hater.  He just prefers to use his knife and/or his bare hands.  More satisfying, I guess.

Another by the way, if you have not seen the episode of The Venture Brothers where the little U.N. pipsqueak tries to take Brock's knife, oh man...that's so funny it just kills me.

U.N. Pipsqueak:  I'm sorry sir, you'll still have to turn it in.
Brock (husky whisper, eyelid twitching ominously):  Take it from me.

Brock's voice is done by Patrick Warburton.
View Article  Jerry Patterson critiques Houston Post
When Jerry Patterson was a Texas state senator, he was the primary author of the Texas Concealed Handgun law.  He is currently a commissioner in the Texas General Land Office.  He has responded with a letter to the editor regarding the article I had mentioned last week.
The Chronicle editors misread the bill and my comments and translated them into a scheme to help Tom DeLay get his gun back.

Nonsense.

When it comes to the Second Amendment, fear, not facts, still rules the editorial board room at the Chronicle. The fact is that the concealed handgun law clearly states "a license may be revoked" for numerous reasons, including indictment on a felony or Class A or B misdemeanor. Apparently DeLay is seeking due process through an appeal, also allowed under the law.

"Is there no limit to legislators' willingness to accommodate DeLay?" the editors harrumph.

This issue is much larger than one congressman. Whether or not this provision is necessary should be evaluated with a view toward the rights of all Texans, not just one.

Regardless of DeLay, I believe this provision of the handgun law is flawed and should be fixed. But as Texas' land commissioner, I will leave that to the Legislature.

In Search of the Second Amendment

The TRUE story of the American right to arms is told by some of the greatest names in American constitutional law -- professors at Yale, UCLA, Fordham, George Washington University, George Mason University, and other institutions, as well as by lifelong scholars of the Second Amendment, such as Steve Halbrook, Dave Kopel, and Don Kates.
