A chronicle of vile and pernicious truths.
About This Blog
The right to keep and bear arms, occasional attempts at satire, frequent recourse to sarcasm, and anything else I can think of. Oh yeah, and pipe smoking. Sometimes H.P. Lovecraft. And obscure Monty Python references when applicable.

View Article  Template Tweaking
I've been playing with the base template again, and figured out how to stop the name of the blog from showing up as "Blogonomicon :: Main Page" in the title bar all the time.  It also shows up like that in certain news feeds.  Now the "Main Page" part is gone if you're looking at the main page, but it will still show the article title if you're looking at an individual article.

I'm still trying to figure out if I can get it to show the category name if you've gone to a particular category.  I thought I had found the right variable, but it didn't work.  So far this is much better than having that "Main Page" thing show up everywhere, though.

I have also been trying to figure out how to change the overall font color and possibly the background without screwing everything up.  Last week, my experiments resulted in an essentially unreadable website for about 30 seconds, and someone actually happened to see it and leave a comment before I got it fixed again.  I think Eponym scuttlebutt is that there is another feature in the works that will allow users to more easily control their blog's appearance, but I'm not certain.

Right now I would be a little happier if I could only make the default font color darker than it is.  I think it would be more easily readable.  But when I thought I had found the right place to change it in the template, it changed all font colors, including the colors of hyperlinks, which I don't like.  I like my links to be an obviously different color from the rest of the print.  So that's something I'm still working on.

View Article  Nonsense and Hysteria in Florida
I caught these two articles early this morning, and thought them worthy of an evisceration but didn't have the energy.  So here's a couple of references.

David Codrea comments on Gun law triggers at least 13 shootings, in which the Orlando Sentinel blames Florida's new Stand Your Ground law for 13 thugs being shot.  No, they were not because they attacked someone, but because this law is being used to protect the defenders from bogus prosecution (it's the law's fault).  I would also like to point out the fact that the main spokesman they found to speak against the new law is coincidentally the head of the Florida Prosecuting Attorneys Association.  Funny how he has come out against a law that is to be used as a defense to prosecution, but as I said, I'm sure it's only a coincidence.

David Hardy posts about Gunned down in Palm Beach County:  Many wounded by bullets share two local ZIP codes in the Palm Beach Post.  This article is just a noisome regurgitation of almost every hysterical claim an anti can come up with, apparently with the sole purpose of increasing the fear level among the defenseless.  The article comes complete with statistics that are meaningless in their correlation and sometimes even contradictory.  The spokesman for the Brady Goon Squad says, "Every illegal gun was once legal."  Yes, I suppose that's true.  Every criminal was once a law-abiding citizen, as well.

In Search of the Second Amendment

The TRUE story of the American right to arms is told by some of the greatest names in American constitutional law -- professors at Yale, UCLA, Fordham, George Washington University, George Mason University, and other institutions, as well as by lifelong scholars of the Second Amendment, such as Steve Halbrook, Dave Kopel, and Don Kates.
