A chronicle of vile and pernicious truths.
About This Blog
The right to keep and bear arms, occasional attempts at satire, frequent recourse to sarcasm, and anything else I can think of. Oh yeah, and pipe smoking. Sometimes H.P. Lovecraft. And obscure Monty Python references when applicable.

View Article  And now, a bummer
Blogger must have finally shut off my hotlinking to my old blog.  All my pictures are gone.  Well, I can't fix it tonight.  I'll work on it this weekend.

UPDATE:  Okay, so I put some things back the way I had them.  I'll see how things work in the next couple of days and if things go back to normal, I'll leave it as is.  If not, I'll have to start uploading pictures here, or find some other free image host that won't jack with my pictures.

I got my package of vintage guns ads today, that I purchased via ebay last week.  What a haul!

But now I have a new problem.  I would like to date these ads as accurately as possible, and most of them have no date showing anywhere.  Some are obvious, like the ones that refer to World War II in present tense.

I need some old 40's, 50's, and 60's editions of Gun Digest or Shooter's Bible so I can date the ads better by checking the models being advertised and their prices.

The backsides of the ads have some interesting stuff, too.  I've already spotted one old pipe tobacco ad on the back of one of them.

I'll be posting digital versions of these on the blog as I get them scanned.  I'll make hi-res versions available so they are big enough to actually be readable on a computer screen.  Eventually I'll probably just try to resell them on ebay, except for a few that might appeal to me so much that I keep them and actually have them framed.

There's all kinds of old Shooter's Bibles and Gun Digests being sold on ebay.  Jackpot.
View Article  The impotence of company policies
The News-Press: Fort Myers:
The shootout ended with littered shell casings, a smashed front glass door, no arrest and Norfolk's actions in question because he broke company policy by having a firearm at work.

Norfolk said he did what he had to do.

"We're not talking about an argumentative tourist from Germany," said Norfolk, 42, hours after the shooting. "This was a heinous (expletive) person."

Kim James, spokeswoman for Circle K's Gulf Coast region that includes Southwest Florida, said employees are not permitted to have guns.

"We do not allow any firearms on company property, employees or otherwise," James said.
Then why was there an armed burglar in your store?  Didn't you tell him about your policy?

In Search of the Second Amendment

The TRUE story of the American right to arms is told by some of the greatest names in American constitutional law -- professors at Yale, UCLA, Fordham, George Washington University, George Mason University, and other institutions, as well as by lifelong scholars of the Second Amendment, such as Steve Halbrook, Dave Kopel, and Don Kates.
