I think it's about time to change the "Recommended Reading" in the sidebar. I meant to put a new book in there once per month, but haven't. The books I'll put in there probably won't be new books, just books that I've read that I think deserve mention. I'll work on that this weekend, and a couple of other things, too.

About This Blog
The right to keep and bear arms, occasional attempts at satire, frequent recourse to sarcasm, and anything else I can think of. Oh yeah, and pipe smoking. Sometimes H.P. Lovecraft. And obscure Monty Python references when applicable.

![]() I ran across this sidebar ad on the back of one of the full page ads today while (still) scanning. In light of the .22 Magnum article I posted the other day, I thought this was a good follow up. The convertible Colt Frontier Scout from 1964.

David Codrea keeps posting these links to old issues of Guns Magazine that are being converted to *.pdf and posted for all to download. I've been wanting to check these out, but since they run about 13 megs each, and I only have a dial-up connection, well...
Then I remembered an old piece of software that I actually purchased 2 or 3 years ago, called Download Mage. It's just a download manager, but it can be set to download for a certain period of time and then log off and disconnect. It also allows restartable downloads, as long as the host is restart capable. So now I'm downloading the old Guns mags. I just start it before I go to bed and let it shut itself down later. Looks like it takes about an hour to download one magazine.
