A chronicle of vile and pernicious truths.
About This Blog
The right to keep and bear arms, occasional attempts at satire, frequent recourse to sarcasm, and anything else I can think of. Oh yeah, and pipe smoking. Sometimes H.P. Lovecraft. And obscure Monty Python references when applicable.

View Article  An amazing gun story
In Idaho, via Hammer.

An old gun comes back home.

The photo on this article from the Mohave Daily News caught my eye.

I used to have a P-32.  It was a nice gun, and easily concealed.  I never had a problem with it, but I traded it for a NAA mini-revolver back when I  started going back to my roots and wanted more revolvers.

But I would never try to tell a newbie shooter that he/she should start with a pocket gun like that.  At least get a gun that fills your hand so you can get a decent grip on it, for goodness sake.  And learn to shoot first.

Maybe that's a .380, I can't tell from the photo.  My above statement still goes, in either case.  Even more so for the .380, which I assume must kick more than the .32.

Odd, that I've never seen this site before.  He's been doing these comics for nearly 3 years.

New high resolution images reveal the truth about the alleged "face on Mars."

I've been trying to think of something to photoshop today and this is the best I could come up with.  However, I did learn one new trick using GIMP today--merging images, rather than just pasting over.

If I can keep selling the rest of my old vibrator motors I think by the end of the year I'll have enough expendable cash to get something I've wanted for a long time:  a Shooting Chrony.  Perhaps I can get one for my official blogiversary in December.

I've always wanted to have one of these so I could see what kind of performance various ammo has from real guns that I own, rather than a test barrel from the manufacturer.  I'm especially curious to try various .357 and .38 ammo in three different barrel lengths to see how they compare, since I expect to have a rifle by that time.  The three barrel lengths being 2ΒΌ", 6", and either 16" or 20" (whichever rifle I end up with--I'm not that picky).

Anyone have any advice, tips, or caveats regarding a Shooting Chrony?
View Article  Some ebay blogging
I decided to take a day off from work today to fully recover from my weekend cold.  I was feeling pretty good, until I took some ebay sales to the post office to ship.  I just got back home and am feeling completely wiped out again.

Anyone who has clicked over there to look at my ebay auctions will see that I've sold a lot of what I call "pager vibrator motors" over the past 5 years.

I used to work at a place that repaired pagers.  To save money, we salvaged good vibrators (and some other parts) from pagers that were beyond repair, because vibrators commonly got too noisy and needed to be replaced.  When the company decided to shut the place down, it was decreed that all those spare used parts would go into the garbage.

I hated to see perfectly good parts thrown away, so I did a search on ebay and saw that those little motors were being sold.  I commenced operations to smuggle as many out as I could.  Since they would only go into the garbage anyway, I don't see it as stealing.

Over the past 5 years those little motors have given me a lot of spare spending money.  Most of the time I use it for small purchases, usually via ebay.  A couple of times I used it for bigger purchases:  a $100 DVD player from Walmart and a $140 Makarov from the gun show.

I'm running low on them now; I probably only have about 200-300 left.  I'm going to miss them when they're all gone.  I only wish I had been able to smuggle out several more thousand than I did.

If I can move a couple more batches of them in the next couple of weeks, I'll be in good shape for the next gun show.
