View Article  Two out of three is better than nothing, I suppose
Several days ago I posted about part one of a series from WKBO in Kentucky called "Kentucky:  Under the Gun."

Parts two and three are now out.

Part two is a story about a 60-year-old woman who defended herself against a home invasion.  Unfortunately, they paint it as a concealed carry issue because she had recently acquired a carry permit.  Such a permit has no bearing on this case because she was in her own home.  Still, it does show why peaceable persons should be armed and able to protect themselves.

Part three is another story.  It quotes statisics provided by the Brady Goon Squad.  Fortunately, it ends with links to various good websites.
For more firearm facts, click here and for a complete look at the concealed carry law, click here.

And for even more information, click the links below:

Overall, the series was more positive than not.  Still, quoting Brady "statistics" throws a shadow on an otherwise mostly fair series.

It's been a while since I participated in any caption/p-shop contests, so this week I forced myself to come up with something.

For GOP and the City Weekend Caption Contest.

UPDATE:  First place!  Woo hoo!

The biggest generator of hits to other sites in the ring is The War On Guns.  The site receiving the most hits from other sites in the ring is the webring home page, followed by Oscar Poppa.

There are currently 19 sites in the ring.

View Article  If we can keep a severed head alive...
Article from The Daily Mail about an upcoming National Geographic documentary:
Blinking unhappily in the daylight as Demikhov paraded it on its lead, this unfortunate beast had been created by grafting the head and upper body of a small puppy on to the head and body of a fully-grown mastiff, to form one grotesque creature with two heads. The visitors watched in horror and fascination as both of the beast's mouths lapped greedily at a bowl of milk proffered by Demikhov's assistants.
Science or perversion?

The First Head Transplant will air on the National Geographic Channel on January 28.

If this was going on more than 30 years ago, imagine what secret labs around the world may have accomplished by now.  Or don't.  Maybe it's unimaginable.

Irving Wallace (1916-1990)

"To be one's self, and unafraid whether right or wrong, is more admirable than the easy cowardice of surrender to conformity."

Prolific author Irving Wallace wrote novels and non-fiction, as well as writing some TV shows (he even wrote for Have Gun, Will Travel).  Several of his books were made into movies.

He was born in Chicago and grew up in Kenosha, WI.

I read once that he liked to celebrate finishing a book by buying himself a new pipe.

View Article  Hot .357 magnum load from Double Tap
Thanks to Shooting The Messenger for this info.  Double Tap Ammo has a .357 magnum load that pushes a 200-grain bullet out of a 4-inch barrel at 1200 fps.  As tested in a 4-inch Ruger GP-100.

Or 1305 fps from a 6-inch barrel.

Makes me fantasize wonder what kind of muzzle velocity it would have from a rifle with a 20-inch barrel.

Check out this link for the full list of their .357 magnum ammo.

UPDATE:  In comments at his blog, Fits answers:
Double-Tap 125's do about 2350 fps from a 20".

Their 200's, a squeak above 1900.

At that velocity, the 125's can splatter, deform, and tumble upon penetration, not impact, but no one I know has tried them in gello. Water baggies and moistened newsprint, yes. Some are extricated pristine, others in pieces. This spring, we've plans to create a JayBox, with a friend in Iowa putting together an admiteddly Rube Goldberg setup whereby fresh rib bones can be suspended in water baggies. None of it will prove a damned thing except show what the rounds look like, but if they stay together reasonably well there are a few prepared to go hog hunting.

In Search of the Second Amendment

The TRUE story of the American right to arms is told by some of the greatest names in American constitutional law -- professors at Yale, UCLA, Fordham, George Washington University, George Mason University, and other institutions, as well as by lifelong scholars of the Second Amendment, such as Steve Halbrook, Dave Kopel, and Don Kates.
