What, you don't remember Automan? I'll admit it wasn't quite up to the level of "Manimal," but still.
UPDATE: Reuters has video.

That's funny, I thought of Tron almost right away. Which, looking at the dates for Tron (1982) and "Automan" (1983), I wonder if the second wasn't inspired by the first. I never saw "Automan", so I don't know.
Tron. I remember seeing that movie when it first came out, and I haven't seen it since. I was awed by the computer graphics at the time, and I wonder how they hold up today. I need to rent it sometime and see. Re: Re: At last, Automan finds a mate...

"Automan" was about this computer whiz (Desi Arnaz, Jr.) who invents a holographic person he calls Automan. Automan looked like a normal-looking human head, but the rest of his body was the same color as that dress in the photo. He could wear clothes to look like anyone else, except that there was always a sort of little necklace of blue light right above his collar, which he always had to explain away, and which all the chicks really dug for some reason.
Arnaz could "merge" with Automan and become one being, during which time Arnaz got super powers. Thirteen episodes of pure '80s genius! Re: Re: Re: At last, Automan finds a mate...

Wow. I completely do not remember ever seeing that show, but it sounds pretty interesting. Sorry I missed it when it was on.

A while back the SciFi Channel ran the whole 13 episodes in one marathon session. Maybe they'll do it again sometime.
