A chronicle of vile and pernicious truths.
About This Blog
The right to keep and bear arms, occasional attempts at satire, frequent recourse to sarcasm, and anything else I can think of. Oh yeah, and pipe smoking. Sometimes H.P. Lovecraft. And obscure Monty Python references when applicable.

View Article  An anecdote
Hammer's comment reminded me of an encounter I had once.  An encounter with an abject idiot.  The kind of idiot who knows everything.  You know the type.

It was in truck driving school, and the topic had wandered onto concealed carry.  Said idiot began to tell a tale of how he was stopped for a routine traffic violation and claimed to have nearly gotten into serious trouble because "concealed carry is banned in San Antonio."

I immediately attempted to correct him, telling him that under Texas law, no municipality has the authority for a blanket ban on concealed carry.

"San Antonio does," he replied.

"No.  No municipality has authority for a blanket ban on concealed carry under Texas law," I repeated.

"Yes, they do.  I grew up around guns," he answered dismissively, waved his hand at me and walked away.

"I grew up around guns"???  What does this even mean?  He most certainly did not grow up around Texas CHL law, because it hadn't been around for that long.  And this somehow made him a better authority on Texas CHL law than I, who also happened to grow up around guns, by the way, even though the fact is entirely irrelevant.

There was a young lady in this class also, and she remained sitting with me as he left.  Then she looked at me as if she expected me to say more.

I told her, "I sincerely hope he is not carrying when he finally pisses off the wrong person, because he desperately needs to get the shit beaten out of him."  (I would like to say that this is not the kind of language I use routinely, but in this case I felt I had to make a point).

Like I said, he was an idiot.  That was not the first time he had spewed utter garbage.  Every time he opened his mouth, it redlined my B.S. meter.

UNSPEAKABLE VAULT (Of Doom) is a collection of comics featuring such characters as Cthulhoo, Shubby, and Nyarly.

Very humorous if you're into that sort of thing.  Here's an early one:

Check it out if you're in the mood for some Lovecraftian humor...er, humour.

I am always surprised--although I suppose I shouldn't be--at the simple, stupid mistakes made by the S.A. Express-News:
After realizing that his home had an intruder, a homeowner chased down a 19-year-old man and shot him to death on the Northwest Side early Saturday, according to a police report.

Raymond Lemes, 48, said he was asleep when he heard a scream.

Lemes grabbed his gun and realized an intruder, later identified as Tracy Glass, was in his home in the 9800 block of Autumn Star.

Glass took off and Lemes chased him down the street. When he caught up to the suspect, Lemes said Glass took a swing at him so he shot the man.

When police arrived at 2:35 a.m., they found Glass facedown, dead with gunshot wounds to the chest, neck and arm.

The homeowner had a license for his .40 caliber Glock pistol, a police report said.

He told police Glass probably had gained access to his home through a sliding door that had been broken for some time.
No, he did not have a license for his pistol, because there is no such thing.  He may have a CHL, but it is not a license to own a gun, and it is irrelevant in any case because this incident occurred (or started) in his own home.

The Express-News is worthless.  And their comics pages suck, too.
